Looking back, I understand nursing school prepared me for a new way of thinking: I can now walk into a room and quickly assess and diagnose to intervene in the most appropriate ways, collaborating with my clients to achieve the best outcomes, thanks to the valuable ADPIE process. Recently, I was reminded of my transition to critical thinking, as my daughter graduated from nursing school. I observed her very real struggle to think in new ways. I realized as I supported her through her own journey, that some foundational things do not change.
I am proud to be a nurse and celebrating the career path of thousands of others who have come before and after me. Get to know what is normal so that you can identify abnormal.
These people might help you one day in finding that perfect job or help you with a problem you are having. Also, by talking to people, you will learn how to be a good listener, which will come in handy when you do assessments, whether on a patient or with a client. And, talk with physicians. They want to teach, let them.
